In 1996, the Commonwealth Education Organization (CEO), a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, was founded by a group of parents and professionals who began to meet informally in 1989 to discuss education concerns related to the schools their own children attended. They learned that their issues were part of a much larger picture involving federal and state mandates that framed and often controlled the education programs in individual schools. At that time they also began to recognize the education reforms that were truly revolutionizing American education.
With the formation of CEO, the founding members were able to share their research with parents, educators, school board directors, and legislators throughout Pennsylvania. CEO has grown to become a respected, reliable source of education information at the local, state, and national level.
